My Playlist With…HiFi
A quintessential playlist for me has to include...old-school tracks with a chilled house remix. Think Marvin Gaye, Sade and Brandy, all with a fresh, modern twist. I recently discovered Geods Sorèd, a French producer who’s now a friend – he’s brilliant at reworking 90s sounds in a completely new way.
For the ultimate road trip playlist...it’s all about sing-along classics that everyone knows. I’ll sometimes throw in a few newer tracks, but the vibe is mostly nostalgic. Some favourites include albums by Lauryn Hill, Drake, Eminem and Empire of the Sun.
My favourite album right now is...I’ve never been an album person. Even growing up, I made my own mix CDs because I could never stick to one artist or sound. Right now, I’ve got this track and this one on repeat.
My favourite albums of all time...Headlines by Drake and Gallows by DRAMA. Both have stood the test of time for me.
In terms of classics...there are so many. ‘Making Me High’ by Toni Braxton (which was also the number one song the week I was born), Brandy’s ‘I Wanna Be Down’, Mariah Carey’s ‘We Belong Together’, ‘My All’, ‘Always Be My Baby’ and ‘Honey, Into You’ by Fabolous, ‘What You Won’t Do For Love’ by Bobby Caldwell, and Michael Jackson’s ‘Human Nature’.
For a girls’ trip...it has to be a throwback R&B playlist. Classic, feel-good, sing-along hits from the greats.
If I’m getting ready for a night out...I’ll put on something groovy – usually jazz-meets-house. This playlist always sets the right mood.
When I want a good cry...I do the opposite and play upbeat music that makes me feel better. This SoundCloud playlist is my go-to for that.
At the end of a long day...I’ll unwind with soft R&B and relaxing jazz. This one helps me switch off.
Before getting ready for a live set...silence. I like to take a moment to reset and focus before I go on stage – it helps me tap into the energy I want to create during my set.
One of my favourite tracks to perform is...I remix a lot of my favourite songs for my sets – about 40% of what I play is made up of unreleased versions. One I always come back to is this one. It works at any point in the night, whether to lift the energy mid-set or close on a euphoric high. It never gets old.
