THE LOCATION

One of InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace’s biggest highlights? The location. On Via Veneto, one of Rome’s most iconic streets, this new hotel embodies the area’s glamour and history. The property is just a short walk from some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks, including the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon, and was the backdrop to Fellini’s classic film La Dolce Vita. Today’s it’s an ideal base for travellers looking to explore the city’s rich history, culture and art scene, not to mention its huge selection of great restaurants – from traditional trattorias to espresso bars. The hotel is close to lots of high-end boutiques, the beautiful Villa Borghese and the Rome Opera House. In short, if location and walkability are high on your list of criteria, InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace ticks both boxes.

THE HOTEL

This striking building has a storied history. In 1900, renowned Roman architect Carlo Busiri built the palace, borrowing from the Renaissance’s classic architectural elements including gables and columns to create symmetrical elegant shapes. In 1905, the palace opened as a residence for ambassadors visiting Rome, before becoming the home of the US Embassy Library until 1999.

Today, the hotel’s interiors reflect the building’s original meticulous attention to detail, which provide the hotel with a natural turn-of-the-century elegance and discreet luxury. There are touches of this luxury in each of the hotel’s 160 rooms. Inspired by sophisticated Italian apartments, the spaces feature a soft colour palette and lots of marble and wood. The design of each room aims to underscore Italian traditions and craftmanship through bespoke details, from brass handles reimagined to resemble Roman fluted columns to leather-crafted headboards. Elsewhere in the hotel, guests can make the most of the wellness facilities, which include a fitness suite and massage rooms.

THE FOOD & DRINK

As you’d expect from an Italian property, food and drink is a central part of the hotel experience. Its flagship restaurant is stylish, 60s-inspired Scarpetta NYC, which serves elevated Italian dishes alongside flavours of a traditional American steakhouse. There’s also a cool al fresco space, Charlie's Rooftop, and contemporary spot Anita’s Bar & Lounge. Offering beautiful views over the city, Charlie’s Rooftop is the only rooftop in Rome that's open year-round and is inspired by the jovial spirit of a ‘good time Charlie’ with a fun atmosphere, creative cocktails, live music and exclusive DJ sets – plus a great late-night drinks list. Finally, Anita’s Lounge & Bar sets the scene for every guest’s stay, as it’s the first space visitors see when they enter the hotel. Framed by a magnificent 600-bulb chandelier, it’s just the place to relax with a classic Italian aperitivo in hand.
