A Cool Creative Shares Her Current Obsessions

1. The Inspiration
My sources of inspiration are varied, but nature has always been at the core. My grandmother, an artist herself, used to tell me, “Teta, if you’re ever lost, go to nature.” That saying has become my mantra, from the texture of an octopus to the colours of a butterfly or the intricate patterns of shells, I’m constantly in awe of how perfectly designed the natural world is. I’m also equally inspired by culture, tradition and travel. I find endless fascination in the artisans, artists and architects who devote years to their craft.
2. The Fall Wish List
Two brands I always return to, especially with Fall approaching, are Ganni and Essential Antwerp. I have been eyeing up a few pieces already, which I can’t wait to accessorise with some of my handbags and accessories. Outerwear is also a big must for the new season, and I’m obsessed with anything and everything from Charlotte Simone. I also have my eye on a Proenza Schouler Zebra-print Jacquard Coat and a Sissel Edelbo Rose Coat.
3. The Colour Combinations
When it comes to colour theory, I have two favourite approaches: either creating harmonious gradients – like the warm transition of a sunset or leaning into bold contrasts. I love the unexpected balance of opposites, like purple with green or blue with orange. I don’t think I can pick a favourite colour combination, as for me, colour always begins with how I’m feeling.
4. The Handbags
I’m definitely a handbag girl – I love a roomy bag that fits all my essentials without compromising on style. Lately, my Ganni XXL Hobo in dark olive has been my go-to for work, while the red studded Dothhz bag is perfect for lighter days, with its pop of colour and silver hardware. This season, I’m eyeing a few new additions: the Gucci Giglio Tote and the Acne Studios Camero Camera Bag in Cognac (the ultimate Mary Poppins bag). I’ve also been loving tartan, so the Chopova Lowena Camille and Sofia bags are high on my wish list.
5. The Sunglasses
I never leave the house without my Karen Wazen Yellow Ciara Cat-Eye Sunglasses – they’re a true staple in my wardrobe. For more of a statement, I love my Off-White Katoka Blues. Right now, I’ve got my eye on the Lexolla Cleo in Cinnamon and Honey, and the Loewe Paula’s Ibiza Cat-Eye sunglasses in orange or green. I already have the pink pair, but the bold colours feel perfect for Fall – playful, funky and very me.
6. The Jewellery Brands
My love for antique jewellery is where it all began. I wouldn’t have the collection I do today without years of browsing markets and seeking out locally made and antique pieces on my travels. Wherever I go, I try to find one piece that speaks to me to add to my collection; it’s how my jewellery becomes a living archive of my journey. As for designers I truly admire, a few that stand out are Tessa Metcalfe, Azza Fahmy, Karma Malhas, Giovani Raspini, Grainne Morton, Monies, Sophie Gardner, Hugo Kreit, and Martina Kocianova.
7. The Shoes
I am a creature of habit and try to stay loyal to the brands I love. My patent red and black Ganni flats have become true forever shoes, and I’m already eyeing the cheetah print pair next. I recently discovered footwear label Falbelus and picked up the Lady Sophie Blue flats, which are as comfortable as they are beautiful. I’ve also always had a soft spot for platforms – my Lamoda Daydreaming Black PU Flats are in constant rotation.
8. The Regional Brands
Many of my favourite Middle Eastern brands are either created by close friends or deeply resonate with me through their message, use of colour, and conceptual storytelling. I’m constantly inspired by labels like Dara Hamarneh, Reemami, Kaleidoscope by Mimi, Nasiba Hafiz, and Nafsika Skourti. I also love Jessika K, All Things Mochi, Nadine Mos, and Abadia. Newer brands like Rebel Cairo and Be Indie round out my list.
9. The Hotel
One of the standout places I stayed this summer was Arthaus Beirut. Housed in a historic building, it’s filled with contemporary art, creating a striking contrast between old and new. Every corner held something to discover, and the thoughtful integration of art made the entire experience feel personal and memorable.
10. The Restaurant
As an avid foodie, Fakhreldin in Amman will always be at the top of my list. It feels like home – comforting, and consistently delicious. Another standout is the restaurant at Butler’s Beach Club in Batroun, Lebanon, where I had an incredible meal earlier this summer. It’s become a new go-to.
11. The Coffee Shop
I’m a big on coffee, specifically iced lattes. My go-to spots shift depending on where I am, but when I’m back home in Amman, I always find myself at Majnoon Qahwa and Base Coffee for top quality and great flavour. For atmosphere, I love Rumi for its cosy vibes and picturesque views.
12. The Books
Instead of listening to podcasts or watching shows, I’ve been reading more, it feels like the right pace as I’m on island time. Now, I’m making my way through The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery, and One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune.
13. The Make-Up
My make-up bag hasn’t changed much over the past few years – I’m loyal to the products that work. No matter where I am in the world, I always have a few go-to staples with me: the Huda Beauty 1 Coat Wow!, the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and Huda Beauty’s Easy Bake Loose Powder. I never skip an eyelash curler, and for lips, I use the Huda Beauty Lip Contours and Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Lustre Gloss in Pillow Talk. As for skincare, I always rely on Dermalogica – its Dynamic Skin Recovery Cream with SPF 50 during the day and Super Rich Repair Cream at night.
14. The IG Follow
I recently came across jewellery designer Sara Beltrán and instantly fell in love with her work. Given my love for the sea her designs really resonate with me. Natasha Ahmed as well has been super fun to follow as I’ve recently gotten into digital journalling.
15. The Fragrance
When it comes to fragrance, I tend to stick with one perfume I really love, and I’ll use it for years. I always begin with the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream followed by the Cheirosa 62 Mist. I moisturise, then mist myself. Then, to top it all off, I finish with my Valentino Donna Born in Roma perfume. I’ve been following this routine for years now, and I absolutely love it.
16. The Interior Design Secret
I’m a big collector of objects. Part of the reason I do this is to build an archive of my life, a cabinet of curiosities made up of the places I’ve been. Naturally, the things I buy come from all over the world, but especially from antique markets or local artisans. One of my favourite places to find design objects was Marché aux Puces de Saint-Ouen in Paris. It’s incredibly diverse, full of art, design pieces and unique vendors – it’s a must-visit when in Paris.
17. The Art
I have always been drawn to Salvador Dalí and Yayoi Kusama. One of my most treasured possessions is a huge yellow pumpkin sculpture that I had bought from Tate Modern Museum in London – it just encapsulates everything I love about Kusama. Today, I’m especially passionate about local artisans and wherever I travel, I always try to meet new makers, because each new artisan becomes a favourite in its own way. As for Middle Eastern artists, I truly admire Samia Halaby and Nissa Raad.
18. The App
Without a doubt, the one app I love the most is Substack. I use it frequently for articles about everything I’m passionate about – journaling, mindfulness, poetry, fashion and philosophy. It’s like a writer’s Pinterest.
